Hey, I'm azlin bloor

It’s great to see you here! Welcome to my nostalgic culinary affair!
I’m Azlin Bloor, culinary instructor and food writer.

I was born in Singapore and spent most of my growing up years there, until my late 20s. A handful of those years was spent in Malaysia, as my dad was Malaysian.

I’ve been in the UK since the mid 90s, and these days, live on the south coast of England with my 4 kids (I’m a widow).

For the last 10 years, I’ve been blogging over at LinsFood.com. But as that site grew and grew, I just had to create a home for all my beloved childhood recipes. So here we are!

I’ve been a Udemy instructor for about 10 years, click here for my classes on Udemy.
On top of that, I also give live cooking classes and demonstrations through Zoom, and these days, very occasionally, onsite. When I can be persuaded!

My FAMILY

I can safely say that my family embodies what it is to be multicultural.

We are multi coloured (smile) and we are multilingual. We've always spoken with at least 3 languages in a single sentence, it was just the way things were done.

With every single member of the family since my parents’ generation (and all my grandmother’s brothers!) marrying outside the original ethnic group, what hope did we have of being anything else, but! So we’ve got Pakistanis, Malays, Eurasians, Europeans, Chinese, Indians, Arabs, and a few other bits and bobs in the clan.

I speak 4 languages, 7, if you include the stuttering ones. I read and write Arabic, but can't speak it to save my life!

As far as cooking goes, for a start, I grew up in a place where local food means Chinese, Malay, Indian (north & south), Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Eurasian and Nyonya food. Add to that, my very colourful family - we were always going to be miles ahead when doing multi cultural food. Gotta call it like you see it!

And I shan't even bother with the travelling. That's just way too much information!

So my recipes here on Singaporean and Malaysian Recipes, will cover what the term really, really means.

Not just Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese recipes.

Not just Malay recipes.

But also Singaporean and Malaysian Indian recipes, like our prawn vadai.

Less well known Eurasian recipes like the Eurasian Corned Beef Stew or Curry Feng.

And of course, the inimitable Nyonya recipes, obscure or otherwise, like Ayam Buah Keluak.

I used to produce weekly live shows on YouTube via Google Hangouts - sometimes I'd cook, sometimes I would host the shows. That was a whole lot of fun! In the image on the left, we were cooking from a restaurant in Greece.
You'll still find me doing a couple of livestreams a month over on YouTube.

Be sure to check out my other site:

LinsFood – my flagship blog.

And my YouTube videos, where I still do livestreams regularly.
